Description: The Grand Rapids Study club, an organization for African American women, was established in 1904. More than a social club, its purpose was "to unite all efforts towards individual, home, and community betterment through study and civic cooperation in all things, which portends the advancement of all groups." Meetings were held on Tuesdays, the traditional day off for most household workers. The club was located at 427 James SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Photo circa 1940. |
